Water Heaters and Models
Q: How do Noritz tank-less water heaters work?
A: Noritz water heaters work on demand. They only heat water when necessary. When a hot water fixture is opened or hot water is required by an appliance, the heater will sense the demand and heat water accordingly. Instead of wasting energy and money storing hot water when it is not needed, tank-less water heaters provide only as much hot water as needed.
Q: What is the difference between a storage tank water heater and a tank-less water heater?
A: Tank water heaters store and heat water at all times, thus incurring higher operating costs, whereas tank-less water heaters only heat water as needed. In addition, tank heaters have a limited supply of hot water, while tank-less heaters provide an unlimited supply of hot water.
Q: How much money can be saved if a Noritz tank-less water heater is used in place of a storage tank?
A: The California Energy Commission estimates that a water heater uses approximately 25% of all energy consumed by any household. Using a Noritz tank less water heater will allow a home to use up to 50% less energy for water heating, which can cost up to hundreds of dollars per year.
Q: Which model of Noritz tank less water heaters is right for my application?
A: The best way to size a tank less water heater for any application is to estimate the peak flow capacity that will need to be supplied by the water heater at any time. For residential use, this will most likely be the maximum number of showers that may be used simultaneously, multiplied by the flow rate of the showerheads. This calculation should only be done by a qualified plumber or contractor. Once this maximum flow rate is calculated, consult the specifications for each heater to determine which models meet your demand.
Controlling the Heater
Q: What temperature should the water heater be set at?
A: The set temperature of the water heater depends on how it will be used. A comfortable shower temperature should not be much higher than 100°F (temperatures above 120°F will cause burns). Lower temperatures will also prevent scale deposits from forming and affecting the operation of the heater.
Q: How do I change the temperature on the water heater?
A: Every Noritz tank less water heater comes standard with a remote digital temperature controller, which allows you to adjust the water temperature. The controller is optional with the N-063S model. For other models, the control panel can be wired and installed in a remote location. The water temperature is displayed on the control panel, and can be adjusted using the up and down buttons.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
Q: There isn't enough water pressure from the heater.
A: If the pressure being supplied into the water heater is low, the pressure coming out of the water heater will also be low. If the supply pressure is normal and the water pressure is still low, the water heater may be too small for your application. Contact your authorized installer about replacing your heater with a larger one.
Q: Do I need a water softener?
A: Hard or impure water will void the warranty, so it is suggested to use a softener in areas where hard water is a problem.
Q: Water is dripping from the relief valve on the outlet of the heater.
A: This may be a failure of the relief valve, or a response to dangerously high temperatures or pressures in the water heater. Contact D&D Plumbing Heating and Cooling to check this problem.
Q: There is a number flashing on the control panel.
A: When the temperature is set to 140°F or higher, that temperature will flash on the control panel display for the first ten seconds. If the number continues to flash after ten seconds or if there is no number displayed, contact D&D Plumbing Heating and Cooling for service.
Q: Can Noritz tank less water heaters be used in extremely cold regions?
A: Noritz tank less water heaters have freeze protection that will protect it from below freezing temperatures, but only down to 5°F. Even if the heater is installed indoors, follow the instructions in the Owner's Manual and Installation Guide.
Q: Is regular maintenance required?
A: Consult the Owner's Manual and Installation Guide for proper maintenance procedures.
